What sparks joy in you?

Many things bring me joy:

  • The feeling of strength, flexibility and balance when I hold a difficult balance pose for the first time
  • Watching a butterfly emerge from its chrysalis and take its first flight
  • Creating something new… coming up with an idea, sketching it out on paper, then making it a reality, and seeing it come alive.

Yes, creating sparks great joy in me. And while I usually jot my ideas down on paper–physical or electronic–I specifically didn’t say what I create.

Creating is not limited to one medium.

For me, I’m usually solving a problem when I create. But whether I solve that problem with fabric, a quilt, cardboard, insulation foam, PVC, wood, or watercolors… depends on what problem I’m trying to solve.

To take an idea, flesh it out, and make it come alive–in all its warts and glory–gives me great joy. It’s helped me to let go of perfection and embrace the possibility of what can be. And every time I do, I get better at it. It’s a journey of joy and possibilities.

What do you do to unleash the joy within you?

Let me know!

Cheers!
